Me & Lego - The history

Back as a child I loved Lego, every birthday and Christmas I got something Lego related. My biggest piece, back then, was my beloved Train Set that I spent hours playing with. I loved my Lego so much that I treasured it. I practically still have every piece! Although sadly not every set of instructions. (My childhood Lego is now all kept safely in a suitcase, where it is free from dust and damage.)

Back in 2005 I re-found my love for Lego when I bought my first piece of Star Wars Lego, The Clone Scout Walker (7250). I loved Star Wars and I loved Lego, so it was a no-brainer and I followed it with the  ARC-170 (7259).  My passion for Lego was re-set in motion.  We now have a HUGE Star Wars collection in the dining room. My favourite big pieces to date are the Millennium Falcon, The Imperial Star Destroyer and my beloved AT-AT which cost Mikey a fortune for my 30th birthday.

My fave smaller pieces are that very first Clone Scout Walker, my X-Wing (4502) and Boba's Slave I (6209).

Most of my Mini-Figures came with the building sets but occasionally we splashed out and bought some from eBay, including General Grievous, Dooku, the Emperor and a Stage I clone.  My fave mini-figs have to be the Imperial Guards, the stormtroopers, R2-D2 and his waiter tray and Mace Windu with his light up light sabre.

Sadly, I then got to a point where I had all the kits that I wanted and all those that I could afford, so my passion kind of dwindled. There are a lot of the newer Clone Wars sets that I don't have but I am kind of a Lego purist and like my Lego men to be yellow and simple and the Clone Wars stuff seems a bit too cartooney.

As the years have gone by I have treasured my Star Wars collection, but not much more Lego was added to the collection, apart from a Superman Mini-Fig and an Indiana Jones Mini-Fig (2 more of my childhood heroes). So the Lego trail started to fade, with only the occassional  Lego treats; such as advent calenders, books, ice-cube trays, lunch boxes etc.

That is until our friends came to visit, Ali was amazed with my collection and we spent many an hours playing with it and also introducing her to the ways of the Force. This re-sparked my passion and then when another friend, Tom, started posting daily pics of his lunchtime treats - mini figs from the Lego series 4 - despite trying to resist, I couldn't - I was re-hooked.

So my love for Lego was re-established.... and now instead of keeping it hidden; my embarrassing guilty pleasure, I have decided to share it with the world.  Until recently, I hadn't really advertised my passion for Lego.  Only people that visited our house ever found out, as it takes up most of our dining room!  Unfortunately as they often mistook the collection as Michael's childhood Lego and were then a little bemused or looked at me like I was odd, when we told them, I often felt  embarrassed and ashamed.

Anyway, with encouragement from my good friends on Twitter , I have embraced and 'outed' my inner Geek and I am proud!
